1999 Chevy Silverado Recalls
Though Chevrolet makes sure that its cars are manufactured with particular attention
to details, assembly defects are unavoidable. The 1999 Chevy Silverado is no exception.
A recall was issued to this Chevy truck when the disturbing problem was identified.
The steering gear to frame attachment bolts were not appropriately tightened,
which meant that over a period of usage the bolts may slack off, then the steering
gear may loosen itself from the steering column.
Consequently, steering may not be accurate anymore and can induce the driver
to miscalculate his movements. If this circumstance is disregarded, the bolts
can wear down to the point of breaking. If all the bolts break or back out, the
steering gear will detach from the frame, and steering control will be diminished.
Owner of 1999 Chevy Silverados can take their trucks to their dealer where the
problem will be addressed. The remedy will be the retightening of the steering
gear to frame bolts to the proper specifications.
