2003 Chevy Silverado Complaints Recalls
Complaints have been logged about the fracture and corrosion of tailgate cables;
this problem has resulted in many cases of injuries when the tailgate suddenly
flips open. The said cables are responsible for attaching the tailgate to the
truck bed, adjusting these cables allows you to either open or close the gate.
Because trucks are used to carry heavy loads and other such cargo, this hitch
can cause serious injuries because the barrier that is supposed to hold the cargo
in and on the truck will fail to do its job.

There have been reports of 134 minor injuries linked to this situation, but no
crashes or fatalities have been recorded. It is not only passengers who are in
danger from this problem (especially in loading and unloading cargo), passer-bys
are in much graver danger because cargo can just go flying off the truck when
the cables suddenly fracture. About 4 million vehicles are to be subject the recall,
a daunting task but one that should not be ignored. But the vastness of the number
of trucks to be recalled has prompted the company to schedule a shifting in the
replacement schedule. Owners will be notified with their respective schedules.
